About Me

My name is Pedro Soares and I'm 22 as of this year.

I was born and raised in Portugal, where I completed my Game Development degree at Polythetic of Leiria. This degree taught some vital skills but, most importantly, I discovered my passion for game design.  This is especially true for the areas of Level Design and Narrative Design, which I have studied and researched the most.

Although Game Design is what I specialized in, I also acquired great knowledge in the other areas of video game production, from 3D modeling to programming.

I hate staying still, so I'm always working on at least one project (sometimes more at a time) which allowed me to have hands on experience with both Unreal Engine and Unity in pretty much all aspects, being proficient at Node-based visual  and C# scripting as well as creating block-outs and quickly making working prototypes.

Video Games as Media

The reason I entered this industry is because I truly love what video games are and what they provide. My first introduction to video games were weekly game nights with my family, where we played (mostly) point and click adventure games, most memorably for me, Tales of Monkey Island. That was when I was 10.

Video games have been a part of my life for more than half of it, and since young this truly has been my dream job.

But I think there is one more reason I'm so motivated to enter this industry. In these 12 years, video games and their surrounding landscape have changed so much. Video games as media is still very much in its infancy and I cannot wait to see what they look like 20 years from now. How will stories be told? Will we still play with the same machines and controllers we do now?
I don't know, but whatever changes, if there is the chance of being part of it, I want to take it.
